What’s been happening in I’m an Engineer Ireland, the online engineering engagement activity

Over the last week, students and engineers across Ireland have been engaging online in 3 I’m an Engineer, Get me out of here Zones, funded by Science Foundation Ireland and Wellcome Trust. Together they’ve talked about: What makes a good engineer? Knowing what to do with your life The future for electric cars Being mistaken for Jack Sparrow The most environmentally unfriendly objects Does anyone like Batman? Wildest imaginary inventions Coronavirus (of course) And much, much more. See the engineers and schools taking part. In total, in the first seven days there’s been: 613 school students logging in to the 3 Zones 348 ASK questions from students sent to the 18 engineers 235 votes cast by students for their favourites almost uncountable number of conversations in the 24 live chats so far. During every event we ask the engineers and moderators to select the students who stood out for them: the students they thought asked the best questions, or engaged most in the live chats.

What’s been happening in I’m an Engineer Ireland, the online engineering engagement event

Over the last week, students and engineers have been engaging online in I’m an Engineer, Get me out of here. Together they’ve talked about everything from how astronauts communicate with earth, to what goes wrong in your job, to how on earth computer mice function, and even biggest career regrets and most important of all: Bourbons or Custard Creams? This March, there’s a Space Zone and Production Zone, supported by Science Foundation Ireland, plus Energy Zone supported by Wellcome. In total, in the first seven days there’s been: 703 school students logging in to the zones 477 ASK questions from students sent to the 18 engineers 347 votes cast by students for their favourites (almost) uncountable levels of conversation in the 33 live chats that have taken place. We took part in the @IAEGMOOH live chat this am with a panel of engineers and took part in a lively exchange of questions and answers. There was a fantastic buzz around the room … Continue reading

Student Winners – March 2018

After every event we ask the engineers and moderators to select the students who stood out for them; the students they thought asked the best questions, or engaged most in the live chats.
