Teachers: Get Parents and Caregivers Involved

During an I’m an Engineer activity, we run extra, after-school Chats every Thursday evening. This is an opportunity to involve parents and carers in what you are doing in school. They are really popular, with students keen to introduce their families and friends to the engineers they have been connecting with in class.

When?

Every Thursday evening during an event, 7pm to 8pm.

There may be more extra Chats too. Please see the information in your current Zone.

How to get students involved at home:

Set an evening Chat as homework
This is the best way to get your students online. Suggest they log in with a family member, look at the engineers’ profiles together and ask a question in the chat. They just log in as normal and click the Chat button at the top of the page.
Add information to your school newsletter
Below is some suggested wording you might want to send home.
Don’t forget to include the web address of your Zone!

Some of our students will be chatting online with engineers in their lessons, on the I’m an Engineer website. We are encouraging students to show their parents and carers the site and introduce them to the engineers in evening live Chats, from 7pm to 8pm on Thursdays. Parents and carers can meet the engineers and ask them about what it’s like working in engineering. If your child is taking part, they will have a login details to access the site. Log in with your child from 7pm and click the Chat button to take part.
