I’m an Engineer, Get me out of here will run for two weeks from Monday 26th February to Friday 9th March 2018 during Engineers Week, connecting school students with engineers across Ireland.
We are running three themed zones. Read about them below, or head straight to the application form:
Look up at night and you will see a whole lot of space out there. With less than 70 years of sending things into space under our belts, the future up above is almost limitless.
In this zone, engineers might be designing spacecraft that map and explore distant planets and stars, helping us understand more about the universe. Or they could be using data from orbiting telescopes to monitor the logging of rainforests. They could even be making sure the satellite that carries your phone signal survives its shaky trip into orbit.

“It’s 2017, where’s my robot butler?!” Not far off, is the likely answer (they just can’t quite get the right tea to milk ratio yet). But in what other ways can robotics change our lives? Can robots care for the elderly? Is it possible for them to save lives in disaster zones? Will autonomous cars make driving tests pointless? And, at this point, do they technically own Mars?
This zone will feature engineers from this rapidly expanding field ready to answer your questions, although they’re not allowed to let a robot stand in for them. Yet.

Our body is a little bit like a machine: our bones form a robust structure, which is moved by muscles. Our digestive system is in charge of taking up energy from food and the blood stream delivers it to where it is needed. We even have a very sophisticated waste management system, and all of this machinery is controlled by a central computer: our brain.
We’re looking for engineers who apply their design and problem solving skills to biology and medicine to improve healthcare.
The Health Zone is supported by Wellcome
Apply now to take part!
Apply before Monday 29th January. We’ll send an email out soon after you sign up asking which zones and how many classes you would like to bring online.
